Botanicals, Tinctures & the Art of Extraction
Step behind the bar without ever leaving your stool.
The Wild Home Apothecary is an immersive introduction to the ancient relationship between botanicals, extraction, preservation, flavour and human curiosity, explored through the lens of the modern cocktail bar.
Hosted by Richie, professional cocktail slinger with over a decade behind some of British Columbia's finest cocktail bars, this workshop draws together an extensive fascination with spirits, botanicals, old-world apothecary traditions and the wild landscape of BC.
The beautiful horseshoe bar at Quartermaster Eatery becomes a living apothecary cabinet. Jars of herbs, roots, spices, flowers, fruits and forest botanicals are passed around, opened and explored. Participants learn to identify aromas, flavours and traditional uses while discovering how simple ingredients from the kitchen cupboard, tea shelf and surrounding forest can become remarkably complex tools for flavour and preservation.
But this isn't simply a cocktail class.
It's an invitation to look at the world around us differently.
For those of us living in the mountains, the forest is not just scenery. It is a pantry, a source of knowledge, and a reminder that many of the ingredients we seek out in expensive bottles in specialty shops have been growing around us all along.
Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of botanical cocktail culture, practical sensory knowledge, and the beginnings of their own home apothecary practice.
Part cocktail curiosity.
Part alpine botanical exploration.
Part old-world tradition.
The Wild Apothecary is about learning to see what's already there.
